FAQ
Straight answers
Legality, privacy, price, effort, your employees, and how we get paid.
01Is this legal?
Licensing records your company owns is legal and increasingly common. The risks come from data you don't fully control, regulated data, and promises you made in past privacy notices. Your own lawyer should review any agreement. We don't give legal advice.
02Will our clients or employees be identified?
Personal details are removed or replaced before delivery, and sensitive categories are left out. No method is perfect, so anything too sensitive should stay out of scope. You decide what's included.
03How much is our data worth?
We can't promise a number, and you should be wary of anyone who does. Value depends on how many years you have, how much data, its quality, how connected your systems are, and the terms you choose. You'll only see a figure in a written offer.
04How do you get paid?
Buyers or platforms may pay us a referral fee when a deal closes. In most programs we work with, that fee comes from their side and doesn't reduce your payout. For any introduction we make, we'll tell you how it works. Full disclosure
05Do we ever send you our data?
No. We only collect descriptions of your systems. After scrubbing, data goes directly from you to the buyer or platform you approve.
06How much work is this for us?
Usually a call, a few approvals, and an export run by your IT person or provider. The buyer or platform handles the scrubbing.
07How long does it take?
It varies, and we can't promise a timeline. Industry guides describe a few weeks for simple, well-prepared deals and two to three months for typical ones.
08Will this help our competitors?
Your data goes to AI developers under the use limits in your agreement. It isn't published. You can exclude anything sensitive, like pricing models or strategy, and ask for limits on how it's used.
09Can we change our minds?
Usually yes, before delivery. After delivery, a trained system can't realistically "unlearn" the data, so think of it as permanent.
10We're a mid-sized company. Are we too small?
Not necessarily. Years of well-kept records often matter more than size. Some very small or very new companies won't qualify, and if that's you, we'll say so.
11What about our employees?
We recommend telling your team before you go ahead, explaining how the scrubbing works, and thinking about whether to share some of the upside. If you couldn't comfortably explain it to them, that's a sign to pause.
12Exclusive or non-exclusive: which is better?
Exclusive deals can pay more, but they stop you from licensing the same data again. Non-exclusive keeps that door open. It's a trade-off to weigh with your advisors.
13Why use you instead of going direct?
You can go direct. We help you understand what you have and which type of buyer fits before you commit to anyone. And if exclusivity is involved, we explain it before any introduction.
14What if we're closing or selling the business?
Records are sometimes licensed during a wind-down or sale. Talk to your attorney and advisors early, because ownership and creditor rules can apply.
